Turning a tired three-tiered garden into a modern, spacious and low-maintenance outdoor living space.
Making Better Use of the Garden.
Before work began, the garden was divided across three separate tiers. The existing layout restricted how much of the outdoor space could be comfortably used and made the different areas feel disconnected from one another.
The customer wanted a complete change. The aim was to create a more open and practical garden that worked better for everyday family life, offered useful space for relaxing and entertaining, and required far less ongoing maintenance.
This meant going much further than simply replacing paving or laying a new lawn. Willow Landscapes & Groundworks Ltd needed to rethink the levels of the garden itself, remove the unwanted upper tier and create the groundwork for an entirely new outdoor space.
One Garden. Completely Reworked.
The project brought several areas of landscaping and groundworks together to create one cohesive finished garden rather than a series of separate improvements.
Excavation & Levelling
The existing upper tier was removed and the ground reshaped to create a more open, accessible and useful garden layout.
Retaining Walls
New blockwork retaining walls provided the structure required between levels before being finished with contemporary porcelain cladding.
Porcelain Patio
Porcelain paving created a smart, hard-wearing surface for seating, dining and spending time outside.
Artificial Grass
Artificial grass created a neat green lawn without the regular mowing and upkeep associated with natural turf.
New Rear Fencing
New fencing improved privacy and provided a much smarter backdrop to the newly landscaped garden.
Complete Transformation
Groundworks, hard landscaping and finishing elements were brought together as one complete project from the initial excavation to the final finish.
From Groundwork to Hard Landscaping.
Once the major excavation had been completed, the shape of the new garden began to emerge. New retaining walls defined the redesigned levels and provided the structure needed to make much better use of the available space.
The old brickwork was transformed with contemporary porcelain cladding, while the new steps and porcelain paving started connecting the different areas of the garden together.
At this stage, the prepared ground and gravel base can still be seen behind the finished hard landscaping. It is a useful reminder that the quality of a finished garden transformation depends heavily on the preparation underneath the surfaces that are eventually visible.
Bringing the Garden Back to Life.
Introducing the artificial grass dramatically changed the feel of the redesigned garden. After the excavation, structural work and hard landscaping, the strong green lawn softened the surrounding porcelain and gave the space the character of a finished garden again.
Artificial grass also suited the customer’s aim of creating a lower-maintenance outdoor space. It provides a clean lawn area for the family to use without the regular mowing and upkeep required by natural turf.
Together with the porcelain patio, central steps, retaining walls and new rear fencing, the lawn helped turn what had previously been a disconnected three-tiered garden into one coherent outdoor living space.
A Complete Garden Transformation.
The progress photographs show how much work sits behind the clean finished appearance of a project like this. Excavation, moving materials, preparing levels and constructing the new landscaping all take place before the final garden begins to emerge.
The project was photographed during particularly bright, sunny conditions. While the weather looks fantastic in the photographs, hot days can make physically demanding landscaping work even tougher. The standard of preparation and attention to detail still has to remain consistent throughout the job.
For Willow Landscapes & Groundworks Ltd, the finished appearance is the result of all of those stages working together. A dramatic garden transformation is not created only by the final materials. It begins with the work underneath them.
From an Old Layout to a Modern Garden.
The completed garden transformation in Loggerheads,
Staffordshire bears little resemblance to the outdoor space
Willow Landscapes & Groundworks Ltd started with.
Removing the unwanted tier allowed the garden to be used much
more effectively, while the combination of porcelain, artificial
grass, new fencing and redesigned retaining walls gave the
entire space a clean, contemporary finish.
Coming Together Beautifully.
As the project reached its final stages, the scale of the transformation became clear. The artificial grass, porcelain paving, steps and newly finished retaining walls had turned the old tiered layout into a much more connected and usable garden.
The Finished Transformation.
The final result shows just how far this Loggerheads garden has come. The porcelain patio leads naturally towards the central steps and raised lawn, while the porcelain-clad retaining walls give the redesigned levels a clean and contemporary finish. The new fencing frames the space, and the artificial grass provides a strong green contrast against the hard landscaping. What was once an awkward three-tiered garden now feels like one complete outdoor living space.
Making More of Your Property.
A complete garden transformation is about more than making an outdoor space look better. A well-designed garden can fundamentally change how much of a property is genuinely usable and how homeowners enjoy their home.
In this Loggerheads garden transformation, awkward and divided areas became a much more practical extension of the house, with room for relaxing, entertaining and enjoying the garden as a family.
Professionally landscaped outdoor space can also make a home more appealing to prospective buyers. While landscaping can never guarantee a particular increase in property value, an attractive, usable and well-finished garden can strengthen the overall impression and desirability of a property.
That is why Willow Landscapes & Groundworks Ltd approaches garden transformations as complete projects. The layout, groundwork, structural landscaping and final finishes all need to work together if the finished space is going to look impressive while remaining practical for everyday use.
The goal was to create a garden that looked dramatically better while also being easier to maintain, more useful and more enjoyable for the customer.
