Replacing an old timber boundary with strong, low-maintenance composite fencing and a smarter landscaped finish.
A Tired Boundary Ready for an Upgrade.
Willow Landscapes & Groundworks Ltd returned to this property in Eccleshall to tackle an ageing timber boundary that had become tired and was ready to be replaced.
The customer wanted more than a cosmetic improvement. The new boundary needed to be strong, stable and capable of supporting the surrounding ground, while also creating a much smarter and more contemporary backdrop to the garden.
That meant removing the existing fencing, preparing the boundary properly and rebuilding it around a durable system of concrete posts, gravel boards and composite panels rather than simply replacing old timber with new timber.
Rebuilt From the Ground Up.
The finished boundary is the result of several stages working together, from removing the old fencing and preparing the ground to installing the new structure and completing the surrounding landscaping.
Removal & Excavation
The old timber boundary was removed and the ground prepared to create the foundation for the replacement fencing system.
Concrete Posts
Concrete posts provide a strong and durable structure for the new boundary while avoiding the deterioration associated with timber posts.
Gravel Boards
Concrete gravel boards were installed at ground level to add stability, protect the fencing and help support the surrounding ground.
Composite Fencing
Dark composite panels created the clean contemporary appearance the customer wanted with a practical, low-maintenance finish.
Raised Beds
Raised timber beds were introduced along the completed boundary to create a defined area for planting and soften the appearance of the new fencing.
Planting & Finish
New trees and planting completed the transformation, adding natural greenery against the contemporary composite boundary.
Proper Structure Comes First.
Once the old fencing had been removed, the boundary could be properly prepared for the replacement system. Concrete posts were positioned along the rear of the garden to create the strong framework needed for the new fencing.
Concrete gravel boards were installed between the posts at ground level. As well as forming a clean base beneath the composite panels, they provide additional durability and help support the surrounding ground.
The progress photographs show the amount of preparation that sits behind what eventually becomes a very clean finished boundary. Getting the levels, post positions and supporting structure right at this stage was essential before the landscaping around it could be completed.
Contemporary Looks. Practical by Design.
With the structure in place, dark composite panels were fitted between the concrete posts. The result immediately gave the garden a cleaner and much more contemporary appearance.
The consistent colour and horizontal lines of the composite panels create a smart backdrop across the full width of the garden, while the lighter concrete posts provide a subtle contrast between each section.
Composite fencing was also a practical choice for this project. It provides the modern appearance the customer wanted while offering a durable, low-maintenance alternative to the ageing timber fencing it replaced.
More Than Simply Replacing a Fence.
A finished fencing project can look deceptively simple. Once everything is clean and complete, much of the work required to create the result is hidden below ground or behind the finished panels.
On this Eccleshall project, the old boundary first had to be removed before the ground could be excavated and prepared. The new concrete posts needed to be positioned correctly, the gravel boards installed and the levels considered before the composite panels could create the final appearance.
Willow Landscapes & Groundworks Ltd then took the project beyond the boundary itself. Raised beds and new trees were introduced to soften the fencing and make it feel like part of the finished garden rather than simply something placed around its edge.
From Tired Timber to a Modern Garden Boundary.
The completed project gives this Eccleshall garden a completely
different backdrop. The old timber fencing has been replaced by
a strong, consistent boundary built around concrete posts, gravel
boards and dark composite panels.
But the final stage is what really brings the project together.
Raised timber beds and new trees introduce natural greenery in
front of the fencing, creating a much softer and more considered
finished garden.
Clean, Modern & Built to Last.
Before the planting was introduced, the completed boundary could be seen in its simplest form. The dark composite panels create a consistent contemporary finish across the garden, while the concrete posts and gravel boards provide the durable structure behind the appearance.
The Finished Transformation.
With the raised beds and trees added along the rear boundary, the project feels complete. The planting softens the dark composite fencing and introduces height and natural colour, while the timber beds create a clear transition between the lawn and the new boundary. What began as an ageing timber fence is now a strong, contemporary and carefully finished part of the garden.
Finishing the Garden Properly.
Garden fencing has an important practical role, providing privacy, security and a defined boundary. But because it surrounds such a large part of an outdoor space, it can also have a major impact on how the whole garden looks and feels.
In this Eccleshall garden, replacing the tired timber fencing with a consistent composite boundary immediately made the space feel smarter and more contemporary.
The concrete posts and gravel boards provide the structural strength required behind the finished panels, while the composite material offers the customer a cleaner and lower-maintenance alternative to traditional timber fencing.
Adding the raised beds and trees was an important finishing detail. Rather than leaving the new fence as a stark boundary, the planting brings natural texture back into the garden and helps the whole project sit comfortably within the outdoor space.
This project combines the strength of concrete posts and gravel boards with contemporary composite fencing, then completes the transformation with raised beds and planting designed to complement the finished boundary.
Composite Fencing & Landscaping in Eccleshall
This Eccleshall project demonstrates how replacing an ageing garden boundary can become much more than a simple fencing job. Willow Landscapes & Groundworks Ltd removed the tired timber fencing, prepared the ground and rebuilt the boundary using concrete posts, gravel boards and modern composite panels. Raised timber beds and newly planted trees then completed the landscaping, turning the new fencing into an integral part of the finished garden. The result is a smart, durable and low-maintenance boundary designed to look good while standing up to everyday use for years to come.
